The nickname ‘Blue Stockings’ described the ‘unnatural’ educated women who, in the 1890s, passed their University exams but went home unqualified and un-marriageable after their University courses.
Jessica Swale’s wonderful, moving play will leave you astonished at the prejudices the pioneers of women’s education had to overcome, and full of admiration for the four brave main characters who fought for the right to graduate with humour and determination.
An amateur production by arrangement with Nick Hern Books.
