A bunch of underprivileged pupils from the ‘Progress’ (remedial) class are taken on a day’s outing by their teachers. Conflicting views from liberalist Mrs. Kay, who just wants the kids to have a ‘good day out’ and authoritarian Mr. Briggs, concerned for a more educational purpose, emphasise the seriousness of the depressing present and empty future for these comprehensive no-hopers. Meanwhile, the kids boisterously rampage through café, zoo, castle and beach demonstrating their own views of their day out …
