Disenchanted with his life, Albie Steadman makes the decision to travel to the Sudan to perform charitable works along with his lover, Dr Mary Hanlon. The decision doesn’t sit well with his family and particularly his wife, Ruth. This is compounded when Albie is abducted and held hostage while in the Sudan, leaving Ruth and Mary to assess their respective relationships. Clearly such an experience would not leave Albie unchanged either. This touching and often gently humorous drama from the writer of Shadowlands is as beautiful as it is powerful.
