Tons of Money
By Will Evans & Valentine
Revised by Alan Ayckbourn
Directed by Roy Johnson
Monday 13th - Saturday 18th September 2010
Alan Ayckbourn’s revised version of the first of the famous Aldwych Farces, originally produced in 1922, starring the great Ralph Lynn, retains the spirit of the farce, whilst altering some of the original text and situations; however the basic story remains the same. Unsuccessful inventor, Aubrey Allington, inherits a fortune, which reverts on his death to a cousin, George Maitland, thought to have died abroad. Aubrey has the brilliant idea of dying and resurrecting himself as his cousin, thus avoiding payment of his own enormous debts. As usual complications arise in the form of George’s wife, a Maitland impostor (the butler’s brother) and finally the real George himself. This production is dedicated to the memory of the late Les Wilson.
