My Boy Jack
By David Haig
Directed by John Ghent
Monday 9th - Saturday 14th November
Evenings 7.30pm, Saturday matinée 2.30pm
It is 1913 and war with Germany is on the horizon. Rudyard Kipling, the celebrated writer and patriot, believes that every young man of conscience should enlist in order to fight for King and Country - therefore he must surrender his only son, Jack. The severely short-sighted boy of seventeen is repeatedly turned down by the medical boards, but both father and son refuse to admit defeat and Jack eventually receives a commission with the Irish Guards.
David Haig has written a most moving drama based on this true story; at times amusing, sensitive, intensely emotional and hard-hitting. It is a truly beautiful play which will live long in the memory.
Warning: Three scenes contain strong army language.
