Moonlight and Magnolias
By Ron Hutchinson
Directed by John Ghent
Monday 17th – Saturday 22nd January 2011
Scene: Hollywood, chaotic and glamorous in the late 1930s.
Take One: David O’Selznick,
legendary film producer, has shut down production on his Civil War epic, finding himself without a
leading actress and a workable script, but with a rapidly diminishing bank balance.
Action: Selznick, with a new director and screenwriter, existing on a diet of peanuts and bananas, locks the doors and no-one’s going anywhere until they emerge five days later with the screenplay for Gone with the Wind, one of the most successful films of all time.
This crazy rollercoaster of a play, witty, farcical and satirical by turns, is both love-song and critique of the golden years of Hollywood.
“Frankly, my dear, this is one funny play...” - The New York Daily News
